The place is associated with two very famous wars, One which was fought between Mughal dynastic descendant Humayun and Sher Shah Suri at Chousa in 1539 A.D and the second which was fought in 1764 and is popularly known as Battle of Buxar which was fought between Muslim Mughal Mir Kasim along with Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II and Nawab Shuja Ud Daulah of Oudh (Awadh) against the British Major Hector Monro. There are many historic places in Buxar, some of them of the period of Lord Rama. The devotees of lord Rama visit Buxar in huge numbers every year to feel the presence of Lord Rama. As the town is located on the banks of holy river Ganga it has a huge spiritual importance. Panchkoshi Parikrama is a very important spiritual place of the region. Another famous spiritual place located near Buxar is Kanjis Dham. Rama Rekha Ghat build over river ganga is believed to be once crossed by Lord Rama and hence its name is dedicated to Lord Rama. Brahameshwar Nath temple is located at a distance of 30 kms from Buxar. People come here to offer their special prayer to the main deity of the temple – Lord Shiva. A festivity can be seen allaround in the temple on the day of MahaShivratri. Nath Baba Temple is located on river Gangain Charitravan. Another famous temple dedicated to Lord Krishna is Bihariji temple.
